"procedure"

so i have been having this random pain in my left side that feels like a knife going in and out so the doctors(after two months of pain) finally decided i deserved to get some attention for this random pain. i kept calling it a surgery but the hubs insists its just a procedure(he's right). but apparently they are giving me a drug that keeps me completely conscious all the while i have amnesia about the whole thing. so while i have to be swallowing some tube(they are scoping my stomach) i will be consciously doing everything they ask me but forget it two seconds later. isn't there some rule against this?! anyway it just didn't seem normal to me but apparently it has been used more and more frequently since 9/11. theres some random information for the day.. maybe i'm just venting because i'm scared out of my mind. -kel ps. this was what the nurse told me about the drugs they are giving me!! ahh
What is Conscious Sedation?
This type of sedation induces an altered state of consciousness that minimizes pain and discomfort through the use of pain relievers and sedatives. Patients, who receive conscious sedation usually are able to speak and respond to verbal cues throughout the procedure, communicating any discomfort they experience to the provider. A brief period of amnesia may erase any memory of the procedure
